Sound of Marble was designed in collaboration with Pim Studio Architects in London and manufactured by our technicians in Massa-Carrera. This project aims to bring out the invisible history of each sled from quarry to processing and to embed it permanently on the surface of the marble itself. We recorded the sound wave produced by the stone-cutting machine and, though a computer generated script, we used the sound wave as a created agent transforming an initial uniform grid into a beautiful organ pattern.
Marble being hard and granite-like by nature, supple, chameleonic, and capable of adapting to an environment like a second skin, enhancing the environment. Creating surfaces capable of generating scenic impact, amazement, with extraordinary inlays that speak contemporary languages through using an ancestral material. Personalization. Every surface is a project in its own right, every time. Sound waves, natural textures and various material combinations identify these unexpected features that lend themselves to elevated design.
The design is available on large modular tiles measuring 240cm by 160cm with matching edges for creating continuous surface, and it can be used for a wall cladding as well as standalone feature piece or for creating large modular unique furniture elements such as reception desks or similar. It can also be entirely customized both in dimensions and in the pattern design: the design generative strategy can be applied to the pattern by using different sound wave to generate a highly personalized design unique to a specific project.
